QUESTIONS FOR STIMULATING CAREER DEVELOPMENT

In these times, in which the career perspective is less predictable than before, the uncertainty of students increases. Students must take responsibility themselves and make choices for the career they aspire to. This requires not only self-knowledge, but also current knowledge of the labor market. As a training you respond to this by offering career counseling. The realization of good quality career guidance proves difficult in practice. here we describe a number of theoretical insights and practical tips with which you, as a teacher, contribute to the career competences of students.

Career
competencies To get a valuable place on the job market, a starting professional needs career competencies. In a major indian study, there are three career competences that are central to career development, namely: career reflection, career development and networking. This research shows that these competences provide students with a better understanding of what work means in their own lives and what role they want to play in today's society. They do this by reflecting on qualities and motives (career reflection) and in a proactive way of researching job opportunities (career development). This will convert the process of awareness into new possibilities. it is essential that students establish networks and contacts so that they can translate their wishes into concrete goals.

Not your talent determines who you are, but the choices you make, but it's not easily done. As described above, it is important that the dialogue between teacher and student is practice-oriented, demand-oriented and appreciative. To give you insight into how this can be translated into practice,

  1. Define Before the start of the interview, determine which topics the student would like to discuss.

    * What challenges do you want to tackle in the coming period?

    * Which topics currently have your attention?

  2. DiscoverExplore the talents and successes together with the student.

    * In what situation in practice did you feel that you really had added value?

    * Can you name a situation that you are particularly proud of?

  3. Dream  Encourage a student to think about their ambitions, mission and wishes in the future.

    * If you could do three wishes for your ideal dream job, which ones are they?

    * What does your ideal day look like if you can use your talents?

  4. Design To convert the wishes into action it is good to discuss an action plan with the student.

    * How do you want to ensure that you can optimally use your talents?

    * What tools and tools can you use to translate these dreams into practice?

  5. Destiny . Finally, it is essential that the discovered perspectives are translated into concrete plans.

    * How are you going to shape this now?

    * When I speak to you next time, what did you do?
